My First Client

An unexpected surprise.

It’s kinda easy to be an introvert in the world of beekeeping. Half the time I don’t even like talking to other beekeepers 🤣.

As most of you know, I fairly recently created a beehive management service. This new, fun and fulfilling career had an ironic result. You must first understand that I created this in part to continue my world of solace and time in nature however shortly after establishing an apiary at my first client’s property, this all changed.

So during the second inspection, one week after having installed my client’s bees, I was searching for the queens to take pictures of them. I include a hive inspection report for each client and wanted him to see pictures of his queens.

Not 30 seconds after finding the first queen, his granddaughter, her husband and their two children came driving up on a side-by-side.

I introduced myself, “Hey, I’m Jonathan the Beekeeper.” They knew I was coming and were SO interested in what I was doing. I showed them the queen; the bees were very calm.

Their fascination resulted in question after question and everyone got a mini-beekeeping lesson right then and there.

Here’s what I realized afterwards…

My new beekeeping career of introversion has resulted in getting more people involved in the learning process of honey bees and beekeeping.

This has inadvertently created and stirred up an interest about bees because now I’m putting them in people’s back yards!

It’s quite brilliant and a very fortunate side-effect, perfect for my bee-driven, educational desire around honey bees.

In summary: It’s a Win Win!!
